Tourniquet Astriction Apparatus Hook
MADE IN THE USA - PATENTED US11779345B2
https://patents.google.com/patent/US11779345B2
-specifically designed for the TACTICAL MEDICAL SOLUTIONS, INC. SOFT-Wide GEN 4 & 5 (may also work on the GEN 3) to assist in single handed deployment of a tourniquet.
The TASAP was designed to simplify the process for SINGLE HANDED DEPLOYMENT of the SOF T-Wide tourniquet (https://www.tacmedsolutions.com/SOF-Tourniquet-Gen-4).
MECHANICAL ADVANTAGE (VIDEO AVAILABLE)
Without the TASAP, the tourniquet would have a tendency to over rotate on the limb and reduce the users ability to tighten it down. This would cause the user to have to "ratchet" the tourniquet tension strap up and down, each time having to reposition the tourniquet on the limb.
With the TASAP properly secured, tightening the tourniquet is now a single smooth and simple movement. Less effort, time and even grip is now needed to astrict the tourniquet to the desired limb.
Insert the desired limb through tourniquet loop.
Grip the internal strap and remove any slack, then grip the external facing tension strap. Before, this would required utilizing your whole hand to grip the tension strap. Now, this same process requires only one finger or an improvised object in the field (utilizing thumb in photo).
Now just slide your finger out and down against the inside of the tension strap to lock the tourniquet into the desired position so that the windlass can be easily accessed. No more over rotating or unwanted shifting of the tourniquet. Finish by turning windlass until bleeding stops and locking windlass into triangle lock.
The new geometry created by the tension strap being anchored at two points generates a mechanical advantage, greatly improving leverage much like a pulley and rope. This is ideal for anyone who has limited mobility. This new geometry puts the tension buckle in a better position and requires less tightening force to operate properly. By keeping the tourniquet from over rotating, it eliminating the need to "ratchet" it down. You can control the final position of the windlass on the limb removing the need to reposition it. It also removes the need to grip the tension strap which can be problematic when "slippery". Tightening down can now be done with a single extended finger or an improvised object in the field.
FAST ASTRICTION RATE (VIDEO AVAILABLE)
This device greatly improves the astriction speed for single handed deployment of the SOF T-Wide. Timing it myself, I was able to:
1) start the timer on my phone, with right index finger
2) put the tourniquet on my left arm, high and tight
3) fully astrict to the tourniquet to the arm (before utilizing the windlass) while keeping the windlass in a comfortable position to be accessed
4) stop the timer on my phone, with right index finger
ALL PERFORMED under 2 seconds (1.78 seconds).
ONE PIECE DESIGN
The TASAP is 3D printed, utilizing PLA (polylactic acid) filament, with no moving parts. It is solid in construction, not hollow, to maintain the overall strength of the part. the design allows it to maintain its hold on the tourniquet and will not come loose unless you want it to.
SIMPLE TO INSTALL (VIDEO AVAILABLE)
The TASAP can be installed quickly by hand, without the need for tools. It can be affixed to the tourniquet in less than 10 seconds. The hook is designed to be able to open to the left or to the right for your preference. With the opening on the left, the finish is shiny. With the opening to the right, the finish is matte.
EASY REMOVAL (VIDEO COMING SOON)
Staging the tourniquet with the TASAP hooked is specifically designed to aid the user for single-handed deployment. Most arms should fit into the tourniquet while the TASAP is attached. But, in the event that the desired limb won't allow for the tourniquet to slide around it (limb is too big, clothing is impeding, you can't reach down to the foot to start passage), you have 2 options:
1) If you DON'T need slack, the SOF T-Wide (tourniquet) is designed to separate & wrap around for easy deployment to the limb.
2) If you DO need slack, simply remove the TASAP from the webbing (can be done with one finger) and manipulate the locking buckle to pull out as much slack as you need. Continue with normal SOP's.
